Happy Mother's Day

It was a very special Mother's Day this year. It was Hope's first time as a mother and it was great to have both our mother's over to celebrate the special day. We were blessed with really nice weather and Emersyn cooperated well with keeping to her feed/wake/sleep schedule without much fuss.

One quick story regarding the dining. We originally planned to go to a restaurant but the pediatrician felt like that was a bad idea since Emersyn hasn't had her shots yet and to be in a restaurant with many other kids running around just isn't prudent quite yet. So, we thought we would order from the restaurant we were going to eat at. I called in the morning to find out they don't accept pickup orders until 4PM on Sunday's. That was too late for us. So, "plan b" was to grill out. Hope and I went to the grocery store and picked out what we needed for the day.

I started the grill, went in the house and back out a few minutes later to discover that the temperature on the grill was falling. I knew what that meant - a trip to Home Depot to get a new tank. Bummer! That's the second time this happened when cooking for a group of people. It all turned out just fine but it added a little stress until the food was started.

Are you getting any sleep?

I would say this was the #1 question upon returning to work after my daughter was born. Emersyn Rose was born on the 16th of April at 8:03 pm. She's just over 2 weeks old now and we're so excited to have her with us. I'm sure we'll be those parents that we used to get annoyed with that talk about what their kids are doing all the time.

So to answer the question regarding the sleep. So far, so good. We have her on a schedule which seems to be working pretty well. We're following an approach called PDF (Parent Directed Feeding) which is explained in the book called "On Becoming Baby Wise". Its different from what most are used to which is called 'On Demand Feeding' (e.g., baby cries, you get the baby and feed or comfort immediately). We give her plenty of love and attention; just not exactly when she demands it. May as well get her used to the idea that the world doesn't revolve around her.

Oh, right. The second most popular question is about pictures. They can be found here -> Emersyn pictures.
