Power of Text Messaging

I ran across a handy new feature through Google that I think will come in handy. Its almost like the power of the internet via text message. Everything from weather to stock quotes to translation and driving directions.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get the subscriptions this blog setup. No time to research this now.

Keep it movin'

I think we topped ourselves from last weekend. We managed to complete the painting in the office area (at least to put the desks in place), put two desks together plus a credenza, grocery shopping, hair cuts, delivery of our new washer/dryer, started to pack "the bag" for the baby delivery, and managed to have time to grab dinner with friends on Saturday night. Whew.

It was really nice weather over the weekend as well. We didn't get out much but enjoyed seeing the sun.

Utilities and surprises

I read about a utility I thought was pretty cool since I am frequently on the hunt for power when on a plane. This site tells you based on the type of plane and carrier where the power is located, along with what they consider to be a "good" or "bad" seat.

The surprise is that we received some of our order from Office Depot. Not exactly the right order but part of it anyway. The rest is supposed to arrive on Friday. We'll see.

Productive Weekend

Monday's here and its still cold here in the NE. We had snow which quickly turned to ice on Friday which was difficult to clear. It normally takes me about an hour to do the entire driveway. This time, it took me 2 hours just to clear enough to get in and out. What a pain!

We did get a few things accomplished which was nice. I've finished the preparation for the baby's room. All that's left now is the furniture. The room turned out nice. I also started painting the office area upstairs. One coat down, one to go. We're using a two-tone approach similar to what we've done in the baby's room and 3rd bedroom. One color is bagel and the other is rhumba orange. Looks pretty good together. We'll see how it all turns out shortly.

Meanwhile, we're anxiously awaiting a furniture order from Office Depot. Not going so well. They've cancelled our order twice because it was "short shipped" - whatever that means. Nobody called. No email. Nothing. Frustrating. And the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. We haven't had the best of luck with furniture deliveries since we've been in this house. Stay tuned for how it all works itself out.

Friday's Here - Is Winter Gone Yet?

I thought we were done with the snow and then I'm reminded that we're in the northeast and should know its not over 'til its over. Snow today and possibly tomorrow. Bummer. It was the tease a couple days ago with 70+ degree weather that made it hard to deal with this again. Maybe this is the last storm (fingers crossed).

I'm trying to think of how best to 'blog' as this is my first time doing this - at least on a regular basis. I was just reading about some tips that I'm going to keep in mind as I create each entry.

I work with the web everyday. I love gadgets and really enjoy finding out about things people are working on to help change the way we interact with our environment. I ran across this video today that's a good example of what I mean.

Catching up (personal)

I like to be complete in my blog coverage so I guess the first thing I'll do is catch this medium up to what I've experienced so far this year.

An interesting thing I came across on-line was a video called, "Big Brother, Big Business". We are so well connected with blogs, on-line videos, on-line shopping, etc. I love the technology world but its also a dangerous place. This story stops and makes you think.

In January, I was fortunate enough to make a trip to Dubai on the McKinsey dime. Great fun and a great learning experience. Before I went, I knew little about the region, the people, and the office. Its different from what I expected. Most everyone is from somewhere else (kind of like NYC), people are friendly and I didn't see as much traditional garb as I thought I would. The landscape reminded me quite a bit of Las Vegas - just bigger and even more money.

Dad and Darla came out in late January to help with some baby preparation in the house. Hope's pregnant and due in April. We managed to paint the baby's room and the upstairs bedroom. A couple weeks before that, we had the carpet replaced upstairs. Pictures to come...

February was my birthday. I spent the weekend in Dallas to visit family.

Believe it or not, we're still trying to finish our wedding photos. Well, to be fair, they're finished but not in a book yet. We're married 2.5 years already. Time flies - but I guess we've just had other things higher on the priority list. Current thinking is that we may go with a less expensive book. We'll see. More research to do.

We've made some recent purchases. We leased a Honda Civic. Nothing exciting but we need a second car for whatever comes up once the baby is here. We also purchased a new washer/dryer. Delivery is soon. What we have now is so old. Probably wouldn't handle the more frequent washing we'll be doing with a little one in the house.

Enough for now

First post while sitting on the couch watching TV. Isn't wireless wonderful!?
